PRICE INCLUDES TWO 1987 Ralt RT31-VW F3 cars, very low time on both. Both cars were only raced in period in the '87 Lucas British F3 C'ship, and perhaps a race or two on the Continent in '88, and were then sold reportedly by Paul Stewart Racing to the Tracer Racing team in Modesto, CA, USA. They were both raced briefly (maybe 3 races?) by Tracer as Formula Atlantics in SCCA Nationals, then put away in storage and never raced again until after the seller acquired both cars in 2017. Complete, bare-tub-up restoration of the Ratzenberger car (chassis RT31:719) was completed by the seller in late 2019, and has been actively raced since then with the Masters Historic Racing's Formula Atlantic Plus group, with CSRG (N. California) in their FA/FSV Group 7, at the Weathertech/Brian Redman Road America event last summer, and once as a FA with SF Region of SCCA (car now has an SCCA logbook!). Total running time since the restoration was completed is 16 hours, and full, pre-season prep of the car has just been completed in anticipation of the 2022 season (it IS ready to race!). The ex-Gary Brabham car, #RT31:686, is 95% complete, includes a fresh zero-time Ron Hendrix VW 1.8, but needs full restoration. Details of both by chassis #: 1. RT31:719 was owned and run by West Surrey Racing in the '87 Lucas British F3 Championship, and driven by the late Roland Ratzenberger with sponsorship from ATS Wheels. As presented, the car is exactly as it was when he raced it, with the exception of the EFI induction system being replaced with twin Weber 48DCOE carbs. The original EFI manifold, linkage, and electronics are included in the sale. The yellow color on the bodywork is the original yellow gel-coat, with one or two small pieces having been painted over the years. The restoration included x-ray inspection and re-plating in satin nickel of all the suspension, magnaflux of all uprights and new bearings in all, entirely fresh Ron Hendrix-built VW 1.8 engine with over 220hp on the Mike Pierce-rebuilt Hendrix Weber carbs, Hewland MkV 5-speed w/ spare ratios and cam-and-pawl LS diff, new shift linkage with fresh Apex joints, new top-quality Tefzel/Raychem wiring loom by Shippert Racing, original, fully functional Stack tach and complimentary (but not original) Racetech mechanical gauges, billet distributor by S. Jennings Racing w/MSD pickup, new Varley Red Top 30 battery, 2 sets original Dymag wheels re-finished/mag-chromated by Childs Motorsports, all new hydraulics with mostly-Goodridge plumbing, and 100% new AN bolts and nuts. New FIA fuel cell and Facet pump, plus much more. 2. RT31:686 was owned and run by the Jack Brabham Racing organization, and driven by Sir Jack's youngest son, Gary, in the same '87 Lucas British F3 C'ship. The engine cover for this car is not original (was modified by Tracer), but the floor, diffuser, and rest of bodywork are all there and appear original. The tub looks very good, as do the suspension, brakes, and uprights. However, they ALL need to be gone through! This could either be a second complete car, or be used as an extremely comprehensive spares package. Current pictures are included. Beyond the 2 cars, spare wishbones, set of uprights, wing parts, sway bars, etc. also included, see pictures. Both cars have original chassis tags, and their history has been documented by Old Cars.com. With change to fuel injection (all hardware for both cars is included), both should be eligible for Geoff Lees series with HSCC. Welcomed by Masters Historic Racing's Formula Atlantic Plus group, plus many other venues in US and Europe. More details upon request.
