The feeling one has of leaving urbanity behind as the road to the Chateau becomes increasingly more private and at last peters out onto a quiet avenue lined with cedar trees to the house, which sits tranquilly in a peaceful parkland location. On arrival there is a bustle of activity. Guests are arriving, the salt-water pool which sits in a slightly elevated position is being cleaned, the immaculate gardens clipped and the flower beds attended. Immediately one senses the care which is poured into the guardianship of this home. It is little surprise having entered the pristine parkland to find a property which as loving tended within. The Entrance We enter via a vast and eminently modern kitchen with a tall and impressive arched window frame. Once, in years gone by a barn, this area is now a fabulous and bright space for entertaining; a delight to all aspiring Master chefs. The light floods into the room. This is the heart of the home: a dining room, a family room, a place for the preparation of food or for an informal party or a large space for guests to gather. Behind the main kitchen there is a spacious laundry room and a rear pantry area. With separate technical workspaces, for food supplies, bins and laundry baskets, the central kitchen maintains a sense of the aesthetic, with its high ceilings and feature beams; it's grand stone walls offering plenty of scope to hang a selection of paintings. The Hallway Drawn to the kitchen by the aesthetics of the grand arched window we have of course entered as the family might do. The main entrance to the property is accessed via an elevated terrace which runs the length of the property along to the kitchen window. The main door opens onto a large central hallway, such as we so often find in Gascony. Once the place where after harvest the workers would feast, we recently learnt that often the shutters to grand houses such as these were taken down and propped on trestles to fabricate a long table down the length of the hall. Today the hallway is an elegant main feature, leading to the drawing-room, television room, library and study. The Drawing Room The drawing room is a spacious double room with a central fireplace dating back to the 13th century and French windows to the terrace and the gardens - adding a Classically elegant note redolent of all fine country homes. There is also a comfortable library room, a large study area for Monsieur in the recess housing the oak staircase to the first floor, and a separate study for Madame. The library benefits in the same way as the drawing room from French doors to the gardens. The Bedrooms An oak staircase leads to the first floor where the landing opens out onto a second large hallway which runs above that on the ground floor below. Upstairs there are four bedrooms. The master bedroom benefits from a private bathroom and dressing room. The second bedroom also has ensuite facilities, while the remaining two bedrooms share a family bathroom. In the basement of the Chateau there is a studio with a white stone floor and windows to the north. The Guest House With a separate entrance and parking area as well as a disabled access, the guest house is an entirely separate space to the main house or can be included in the overall habitable area for one large family. The house offers a spacious reception room with a decorative bread oven which can be lit up. There is a private terrace or garden. We love the kitchen - it is rare to find a kitchen of such size that somehow manages to maintain a cosy feel! The two studies, library and main reception room are pleasing in the main house. There is really a sense of many different members of the same family being able to live together in harmony whatever the age. The guest house - ideal for some extra revenue of required - or cantankerous family members wishing to be entirely alone. Despite its space - we love the homey, warm and elegant feel. This Property will appeal to : Lovers of high ceilings, comfortable period homes, and elegant gardens. The perfect house to fill with family and extended family members - with enough main living rooms to escape to a quiet corner when needed. The parkland and it's trees, flowers and shrubs are a delight. This property is spacious enough to require ongoing maintenance but the joy of it is that everything thus far refurbished (that is to say - everything) has been done so in good taste and perfect style in keeping with the ancient stone walls which now house these elegant and comfortable rooms.
