In 1830, the maternal grandson of the Marquis of Pombal, Duque de Saldanha, ordered the construction of this Quinta on the ledge of the mountain and in the shadow of the Moorish castle in Sintra. Shrouded in dense and rich vegetation, Quinta do Saldanha is composed of an imposing country house and chapel. From 1834, the Duke of Saldanha made several improvements in the house, in which he spent much of his life.
