Access to the olive trees is via a gate leading to the trees from the road. There are 90 + olive trees that produce some 60 liters of Olive oil annually. Olives are picked around December, taken to a local factory and dependant on your requirements provide either Virgin oil or olive oil. The people of Cehegin are typical country people, exceptionally friendly, helpful and good company, but there are also a number of various nationalities and expats living here and this gives rise to a large number of social activities in the area. Cehegin has an excellent sports centre and recreational activities available. There are numerous walking and cycle paths and tracks, some short and some long. indeed one of the longer walks is a religious path from the coast to Caravaca, some 78km long, and walked by many over a period of 6 or 7 days stopping off at local hostels and hotels on the way. Spain is a deeply religious country, and has many Festivals (Fiestas) over the year celebrating certain important events, and immensely enjoyable if attended, highly recommended. The nearest large supermarket to the villa is less than 1-minute drive, and the town centre 2 minutes drive. The town itself is a typical Spanish country town, but providing a small hospital and health centre with English speaking Doctor and 24 hour emergency room. There are a number of major Spanish banks, shops of all descriptions, some excellent restaurants and takeaways. Caravaca De La Cruz is some 8 km distance and has a first class hospital with the full complement of medical services, plus a castle, major church and many shops. Street markets can be found in every local town, with each day a different town. Cehegin has it's market day on Wednesday, very cheap and extremely fresh fruit and vegetables, cold meats, fresh meat, cheeses, shoes, clothes, leather, and kitchenware. These markets are well worth a visit, join the locals in shopping, expect crowds though, these markets are very popular. There are bus services linking the various towns and cities, for example Cehegin is linked with Caravaca on an hourly bus service, but it should be remembered that this is not a city with bus stops every 50 meters, and a car is a recommended must.
