LOCATION Quercianella is a fraction of the municipality of Livorno, in Tuscany. It represents the southern end of the municipality, separated from the city by the stretch of rocky coast of Il Romito and located a few kilometers north of Castiglioncello. Together with the Antignano district, starting from 2007 the hamlet received the Blue Flag for the quality of services and bathing water. In the past, the place had the name of Quercianella Sonnino, in honor of the famous baron Sidney Sonnino who had built a large castle overlooking the sea here, converting a sighting tower of Pisan origin (Torre del Salvatore). Sidney Sonnino particularly loved the place so much that he decided to be buried in a cave near his castle. Quercianella experienced a rapid development only from the second half of the nineteenth century when, with the improvement of the road network, some noble villas were built. After the Second World War, in 1950 the Bar Dancing Pasquini was inaugurated, the best known summer club in the area, a meeting place for tourists, vacationers and VIPs. A few years later, between Quercianella and Livorno, along the Via Aurelia, the epilogue of the famous film Il sorpasso by Dino Risi was shot.
