SOTIRA Sotira has taken its name from a church, situated in the centre of the village which is dedicated to the transfiguration of Jesus Christ the Saviour (Sotira in Greek means Saviour). It is a beautiful village, and in recent years has been allocated municipality status. Sotira is famous for its plant called `Kolokasi` (known in English as Jerusalem artichokes or taro). Since 2009 there is a an annual festival dedicated to the plant, usually in October. The coastal area of Ayia Thekla is part of Sotira Municipality and only 5km from the centre of the village.
