Glazed double doors lead to a patio or utility area. On the first floor, there are double and single bedrooms and the bathroom, all leading from the landing. The bathroom is fully tiled to walls and ceiling and includes a shower unit over the bath. The third bedroom is a good sized attic room with recessed and built in cupboards providing useful roof storage facilities. The spacious front patio is ideal for al-fresco dining and, like the good sized balcony above, has tiled flooring. The private car parking space is located on one side of the house and there is a small strip of garden to each side. The property is situated in a private road and this, together with the street lighting and other services, is maintained by the local community association. TORRE DEL LAGO Torre del Lago is a delightful quiet residential and tourist area in a beautiful part of Tuscany and is best known as the home of the world famous opera composer, Giacomo Puccini. It is understood that Puccini first visited the area as part of a shooting party in 1900, described it as “Paradise” and, having built himself a villa by the lake, lived there for 30 years. The glorious countryside around the village will not have changed much since Puccini’s day, although the road and rail infrastructure has resulted in the residents of today having so many more interesting places to visit than would have been possible when he was a resident. The natural Tuscan landscape remains much as it was, with Torre del Lago being ideally situated between Lake Massaciuccoli and the Tyrrhenian Sea and in close proximity to the Apuan Alps and the Migliarino-S.Rossore-Massaciuccoli Natural Park. The lake itself is stunningly beautiful and has views stretching as far as the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Sailing on the lake is just one of the available water sports. Puccini’s legacy to the village is the collection of memorabilia housed in his villa and the Opera Festival. This annual Summer event was established in 1930 and is held in the modern lakeside open air theatre by the villa, the beautiful setting and wonderful Puccini operas creating a truly magical and unforgettable experience for the 40,000 or so patrons, who come from all over the world to share it. Torre del Lago is one of the quietest resorts along the Versilia Coast and is just a few minutes drive or 15 minutes cycle ride to the delightful unspoilt beaches. The coast itself provides facilities for residents and visitors of all ages, with its sea front promenade, cafes, bars and restaurants, shops and other amenities. The village offers all the local facilities required for day to day life, whilst being ideally placed for visiting the historic cities of Lucca and Pisa. It is about 15 km or 30 minutes drive from Pisa Airport, whilst the renowned port and tourist town of Viareggio is only 5 km away. VIAREGGIO Viareggio is the largest beach resort in Tuscany, a major tourist destination and the host town of one of the largest and most colourful carnivals in Italy, if not the whole of Europe. Furthermore, it is not a resort which has exploded in popularity during the last 20 years, but has evolved over more than a century, during which time, it has been a firm favourite with foreign visitors and Italians alike. Indeed, some would say that it reached its peak during the 1920s but, whether or not that is so, it remains a leading destination for its fabulous beaches, wonderful seafood restaurants and varied nightlife. The promenade is lined with shops, restaurants, bars and cafes, situated within fine art nouveau and neo classical buildings, architecture which is repeated in residential villas elsewhere in the town. Viareggio was founded as a fishing village in the 12th century and many of its inhabitants have depended on the sea for their livelihoods ever since. It remains a working port, with dockyards building many of the luxury prestigious yachts which use the colourful harbour. The jetty from the harbour extends into the sea for almost a kilometre and is considered especially notable. Not only do the beaches stretch beyond the promenade into the distance, but the town is also sheltered by delightful and enticing pine forests on each side. Beyond are unspoilt countryside and rolling hills, extending to the Apuan Alps and Lake Massaciuccoli and with a scattering of little medieval villages, which just demand a visit.
