The historic house (Dogana), used as a customs house in the 1600s, is located in Madesimo, an Italian town of 531 inhabitants in the province of Sondrio in Lombardy. Now the house which has kept its name is used as a Restaurant, Pub and Inn, located in Valle Spluga, at an altitude of 1550 m, within the Valchiavenna Mountain Community, divided into the hamlets of Madesimo, Pianazzo, Isola and Montespluga, while the nearby locality Motta, which can be accessed from Madesimo with a carriage road, is instead a hamlet of the municipality of Campodolcino (to which it is connected by a funicular). Madesimo with its historic customs house is a well-known resort for winter sports, with over 60 km of slopes, and numerous cross-country circuits, for snowmobile and snow kite excursions. Here, a few steps from the house, there is also a helipad for the landing and take-off of helicopters. In fact, many ski guests reach Madesimo by helicopter from the nearby town of Saint Moritz.
