Kalandare is a semi-mountainous settlement with an altitude of 290 meters in the prefecture of Rethymno. It is located at the northern end of the prefecture, 35 kilometers South-East of the city of Rethymno and belongs to the municipality of Mylopotamos. It is a traditional, picturesque village with a rich natural environment. It has old churches, and a long gorge. All the houses are stone-built, while it has been designated (according to Official Gazette 728/D/219-1995) as a settlement of high cultural value. Nearby are several beautiful villages, one of which is Margarites, famous for their pottery tradition.
